my creative space | more squares

Things are getting really busy around here and time for crafting is become harder. I really need to find some of that work/life balance people talk about. My creative space really has to thank a stupid virus that paid me a visit because there isn't really much you can do on sick days besides watch reruns of friends and crochet some granny squares! It's all about finding the good in everyday, right?

At the realisation of how many squares I am going to need for a queen size bed blanket and the slow process of individually stitching them together,  I started joining them as I was going, using a my own joining stitch, loosely based on this method. I love it. It is so much easier knowing that not only does the last round finish the square but joins it to the blanket. Love watching this blanket grow.

The best thing about making blankets? snuggling under them on cold Melbourne nights.

Take a look over here to see what other lovely people have been crafting this week. I know that is where I am heading :)

  2. Hey Casey, I'm sure your blanket will get plenty of use when it's finished.....

Great idea, joining the squares as you go and I love the bright colours against the grey, plus the squares that have a coloured round in the middle as well.....

Keep at it, you'll get there before long...

    1. It is going to be a lovely cozy blanket - perfect for snuggling on the couch or as an added layer on the bed. Love blankets that serve many purposes.

  5. I love the grey/colour combo - it will be a great blanket. And joining as you go is a clever idea! I've never done it that way. My only concern would be - how would you know that the colours are balanced? I think I like to see it all and juggle the squares and colours before I commit to sewing up. But there would be something very freeing in the way you are doing it!

    1. Hi becclebee, thanks for stopping by. We decided at the start that we wanted the random look - our only 'rule' is that two colours the same cant be next to each other. So far, this is working for us. However I have been making a whole lot of squares up till the sixth round before I join them to make sure I like the colour pattern.

  6. I usually just wait until the end and then stitch them together but your way of joining as you go seems much simpler.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Katie B. I have a few squares joined with that technique but I decided I wasn't enjoying the process and i know from experience that if I wasn't enjoying the process, it would probably never be finished.

    2. I love the join-as-you-go method because you watch it grow-as-you-go! Very motivating!!
